Plans Change

Dearest Gustavo,

If we've learned nothing else in our travels to Honduras, it's the lesson that plans change. Be flexible is the mantra here.

Originally we thought we would take custody of you the first day we arrived but because INHFA thought it better to lengthen the transition, we will not be your guardians until Friday or Saturday. We understand that they see this as a better option for the children. We're hoping that will be true in your case as well.

Today, after our meeting with an official at IHNFA, we brought you to the hotel to be with us for the day...and without "Mama Norma", your foster mother. The agenda for today was simple: play.

You took to painting like an expert, confidently mixing purple and yellow right away, not the combination many would even consider. But the desire for painting quickly lessoned once you discovered the fun you can have in the nearby sink cleaning the brushes or, eventually, everything else around you. You love water.

This was affirmed after lunch when we brought you to the pool. While you cannot swim yet, you are a natural in the pool, blowing bubbles, tossing the ball around, splashing...all with a sonrisa (smile) on your face.

Tomorrow is a big day as you will be with us throughout until Friday when we visit IHNFA once again. The same woman from the office will visit us at the hotel to confirm all is well.

While we admit Bill and I were taken aback by the change of plans, we are comforted by the fact that there is One who does not change (Malachi 3:8) and whose plans never change (Psalm 33:11).
